ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP

Our mission is to build, own, and operate the cleanest, and most efficient fleet of cargo ships in the world.

Forward Ships, with its patented IP Kamsarmax design and simplicity of design, enables the adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the fuel of choice for ships at a global scale.  Forward Ships has applied existing and tested technology to design a cargo ship that emits up to 35% less CO2, 80% less NOx,  99% less SOx, 99% less particulate matter (PM) than conventional ships, and that can produce up to 50% savings in fuel costs.  Forward Ships is the result of Project Forward, a five-year R&D effort led by Arista Shipping.

With its futureproof design, Forward Ships is taking the lead in meeting IMO's 2050 emissions' reduction targets.

Forward Ships takes pride in participating as a founding member in the launch of the Getting to Zero Coalition.  The Coalition with 78 Signatories of which 60 companies, 6 knowledge partners, 9 supporters, 3 project partners, and 11 supporting governments, was launched on September 23, 2019 at the UN Climate Summit. FROM COAL TO OIL,  NOW TO GAS

EXISTING & TESTED ENGINES & TECHNOLOGY - PROVEN DESIGN,  READY TO BE BUILT.

  • Forward Ships has applied existing and tested technology to design a bulk carrier ship that emits up to 35% less CO2, 80% less NOx,  99% less SOx, 99% less particulate matter (PM) than conventional ships.

  • Our target is to launch 20 ships with the first deliveries commencing in 2021.

  • Technology convergence, and Forward Ships’ clever approach, has enabled functionality which made our concept financially viable way, for the first time.

  • SHELL, one of our world-class project partners, calls Forward Ships a “Game-Changer” and the reason for accelerating the roll-out of LNG bunkering infrastructure

LET'S DO THE RIGHT THING

Our mission is to build, own, and operate the cleanest, and most efficient ships in the world.

Our game-changing Forward Ships are leading the future towards a transformation of shipping to LNG and carbon-neutral biogas-powered ships.

As we have witnessed with the evolution from coal to oil to power ships, the transition to gas powered systems is the next frontier.  This is profoundly a game changer with an enormous environmental benefit for our Earth and its oceans.

The magnitude of our first order of LNG-fueled bulk carriers for Forward Ships Corp. and the momentum that is initiated by it makes for a far-reaching turn for the shipping industry which our world class  partners and we are convinced is of historic proportions.

Join us, together we will be making a dent in the universe.

Time to change how ships move,

Time to leave our Earth better than we found it,

THE CLEANEST
FUEL FOR SHIPS
IS NATURAL GAS

Operating on LNG delivers lower emission levels than when operating on diesel oil.  Gas or dual-fuel engines running on gas according to the Otto cycle, have a 25% lower level of CO2 emissions, while NOx emissions are 85% lower than for a diesel engine. This enables compliance with the International Maritime Organization's  Tier III levels without the need of a catalyst. As LNG does not include any sulfur, it also fulfills all sulfur regulations.

LNG is the alternative fuel that looks most promising today. Natural gas production worldwide is increasing, and together with renewables, gas is taking an increasing share of the global energy market. Natural gas traded as LNG is growing by some 6% to 8% per year. Of all the fossil fuels, natural gas is the cleanest, and because of emissions legislation is increasingly being used for fueling ships.

GREENING THE TRANSPORTATION CHAIN

Environmental concerns have led to increasingly stringent emission legislation. What started as an onshore industry regulatory development is now impacting also the shipping industry. Shipping is lately facing multiple new regulations, which will soon be more stringent. The global cap of an 0.5% maximum content of sulfur in fuel from 2020, and the IMO Tier III regulations (specifying that NOx emissions must be 80% lower than at the IMO Tier I level) within Emission Control Areas (ECA) force the shipping industry to consider alternatives beyond today´s standard solutions. LNG far out-performs conventional marine fuels on a local emissions basis, effectively insulating companies from the impacts of future, and the ever-more  more demanding regulations. LNG emits virtually zero SOx and virtually zero particulate matter.

LNG is clearly the fuel for the future. It is favored by regulators and everyone who is concerned about protecting our planet and its oceans.

GAME-CHANGING
EFFICIENCIES & ECONOMIES

The transition to what is becoming known as MFO 0.5% on January 1st, 2020, causes more changes to global marine industry than the switch to the 0.1%S fuel in the ECAs. The impact of this transition represents approximately 75% of global marine fuel demand when compared to the demand of ECA and causes a huge shift in demand from HFO to MFO 0.5%.  Meanwhile, the growth in global LNG supply is led by the US, Australia and Africa. Between 2017 and 2020 the growth globally is projected to be a tectonic +50% ( in less than two years!). Although the investment costs to propel ships on LNG will be significantly higher, the forecasted global increase in LNG supply should mean that the LNG price is kept at modest levels.

With IMO’s own 2020 conservative price projections for alternative fuels our price indication for LNG is $11 USD/MMBTU translating to astounding savings of $1,299,070.- USD per vessel per year over compliant LSFO fuel and $255,733.- over HFO & scrubbers.

We are deeply honored.

Project Forward received the prestigious GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award for promoting the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel, suggesting the design of a Kamsarmax size bulk carrier which reduces the cost of transportation at sea, modernizes the shipping industry, and defines the new standard of vessel for IMO's 2020 emission rules.

Forward Ships brings this design to reality.

Project Forward received the Maritime2020 Summit Award for The Most Sustainable Project, “awarded for a project that stood out for its environmentally conscious techniques and processes that ensure sustainability in the maritime industry.”

Our patented Kamsarmax bulk carrier

Forward Technologies Corp. brings the answer to dry bulk cargo transportation worldwide. Our 5-year research and development has produced an award-winning globally recognized design with patented IP.

Key characteristics of our design are its long range on LNG, the patented machinery arrangement which allows for optimum utilization of space, weight, and volume, and which further results in reundancies never before possible in bulk carriers, such as double redundancy in propulsion,   quadruple   in  power

generation, and the safe return to port.  At the heart of our machinery arrangement are two Wärtsilä's 31DF engines, which provide both the propulsion and the electricity generation for our innovative bulk carrier. This arrangement replaces the traditional one-propulsion engine and three-electricity- generators plant that is found on bulk carriers for the past six decades.  This ship is capable of global deepsea long range ocean trading on LNG.  The Wärtsilä  31DF range of engines are world record holders for thermal efficiency.

FORWARD LNG SUPPLIER 4500

Forward Technologies Corp. brings the answer to the perennial question of LNG bunkering worldwide. We have developed our own solution with a 4,500 m3 LNG bunkering tanker which can serve our needs but also those of other operators.

Our intention is to enhance the LNG bunkering network there where it is needed with a cost-effective solution that can be replicated and applied easily.

We are confident that as the demand for marine LNG grows, so will the demand for supply ships like the one above.

The more LNG is available (today in 150 ports worldwide) the smaller the parcels will become. Our market research indicates that 4,500 m3 will be a standard size that will serve the market well for the useful economic life of this vessel.
